07/29/2005 > The
car was set up, perhaps, better than it ever had been
and we won the heat race by several car lengths. This was a
confidence
booster given the guys that were in the same heat: Simmons (points
leader),
Drake, Sterling, etc. We qualified for first row outside
position in the
feature.
Between the flagman and turn one, the hood slammed up and back, which
made visibility almost nothing. I moved to the outside of the
track and
went down to the infield once the rest of the lineup went passed me.
The
track crew was unable to push the hood back down because the hinges
had been bent too much. Therefore, I watched "Hacksaw" Jeff
Cleaver pass Chris
Ellsworth in turn four to take the checkered flag. By the way,
the hood flew open because we forgot to put the hood pins back in.
DOH!
07/01/2005 > Heat Race: Ray was running in second place approaching
turn three in the final lap and the power quit transferring to the
wheels and he coasted past the checkered flag. After being pushed
into the pit area, the third-member cover was removed. Most of the
gear (teeth) had been sheered off. We were not able to compete in the
feature race. Fortunately, though, Chris Ellsworth had an extra
rear-end that we picked up late Friday night. With the help of Steve
Stuart, we were able to replace the rear-end by noon Saturday hoping
to race that night and the following night (Sunday) in Coffeyville.
However, the car barely moved forward when we tested the car on the
street after putting in the new rear-end. We had blown our
(transmission) clutch. We took the rest of the weekend off. The car
at this time is in the transmission shop and we hope to return to race
the weekend of July 15. Feel free to contact us if you would like to
be a (financial) sponsor.
06/17/2005 > Feature Race: While attempting to pass low during lap
one,
turn two, Ray was pushed down into the barrier that caused the left
spindle to turn out. This means that the front tires were pointing
outward rather than in the same direction. However, Ray continued to
race and was in approximately eighth place going into turn three on
the last lap when the motor seized-up. A piston had, essentially,
blown-up and created a large hole allowing the radiator to drain into
the engine block. Fortunately, we were able to put in a new motor and
spindle the following week.
